Jesus Angel Mendez-Cuella/Mexico/Possession of a Controlled Substance

by G. George | June 27, 2025

Jesus Angel Mendez-Cuella, a 31-year-old citizen of Mexico and an illegal alien in the United States, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following a recent criminal charge. Mendez-Cuella was taken into custody after being arrested for possession of a controlled substance. This arrest triggered a review of his immigration status, which confirmed that he was previously convicted of illegal entry into the U.S., a federal offense.

Mendez-Cuella has no lawful immigration status and has already demonstrated disregard for U.S. law through both his unlawful entry and his continued criminal activity while present in the country. Due to the severity of his criminal background, ICE initiated immigration enforcement action and took custody of Mendez-Cuella following his arrest by local law enforcement.

ICE lodged a detainer to ensure custody transfer, preventing his release into the community while his immigration case is pending. He was transported to a detention facility where he will remain throughout his immigration proceedings. ICE has initiated formal removal proceedings against him and he will be scheduled to appear before an immigration judge.

Given his prior immigration violation and the nature of his drug-related arrest, Mendez-Cuella is considered a priority for removal. His case will proceed under existing immigration law and, barring any lawful relief, will likely result in his deportation to Mexico.
