Jose Aguilar-Zuniga/Honduras/Conspiracy to Distribute Fentanyl, Attempted Murder

by G. George | December 01, 2025

Jose Aguilar-Zuniga, a Honduran national, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following a conviction for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl. The arrest also addresses outstanding violent crime charges including attempted murder and illegal discharge of a firearm, along with a pending homicide warrant from the Denver Police Department.

Aguilar-Zuniga’s fentanyl conspiracy conviction establishes involvement in trafficking a lethal synthetic opioid at scale, reflecting distribution-level conduct beyond simple possession. Court records document a criminal history spanning narcotics distribution, violent crimes, and weapons offenses. Outstanding charges include two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder, illegal discharge of a firearm, and menacing. A 2022 warrant from Denver authorities for homicide remains active.

Following the completion of his fentanyl trafficking sentence, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) took Aguilar-Zuniga into custody. He is currently detained pending removal proceedings to Honduras and resolution of outstanding criminal charges.

“ICE prioritizes enforcement against foreign nationals involved in fentanyl trafficking and violent crimes,” said an ICE spokesman. “This case combines deadly drug distribution with serious violent offenses including attempted murder and an outstanding homicide warrant, representing exactly the type of threat to public safety that demands immediate action.”

The arrest reflects ICE coordination with federal drug enforcement agencies and local authorities investigating the homicide warrant and violent crime charges.
