Jose Antonio Reyes-Mundo/Mexico/5 Murders, 12 Kidnappings

by G. George | May 07, 2025

On April 30, 2025, federal law enforcement officers in Chicago arrested Jose Antonio Reyes-Mundo, a 30-year-old Mexican national wanted in Mexico. Reyes-Mundo is a known cartel member and faces significant criminal allegations in his home country. Mexican authorities have issued a warrant for his sentencing related to the possession of illegal firearms. In addition, he is under investigation in connection with 12 kidnappings and five murders believed to be linked to cartel activity.

Reyes-Mundo was taken into custody during a coordinated operation by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations and other federal partners. He is unlawfully present in the United States and has not obtained any legal immigration status. Given the severity of the accusations against him and his fugitive status in Mexico, ICE initiated removal proceedings immediately following his apprehension.

He is currently in federal custody while arrangements are being made for his repatriation to Mexico, where he is expected to face sentencing and further criminal proceedings. ICE continues to work closely with international partners to ensure fugitives with serious criminal ties are held accountable and returned to face justice in their home countries.
