On July 16, ICE New Orleans officers arrested Jose Enrique Trejo, a 44-year-old citizen of Mexico, for immigration violations following his criminal convictions in the United States. Trejo, who is unlawfully present in the country, has a criminal record that includes felony drug possession and a separate conviction for possession of amphetamines. He was taken into ICE custody after a targeted enforcement operation based on his prior offenses and immigration status.

Trejo’s convictions stem from incidents involving the illegal possession of narcotics, including amphetamines, with evidence suggesting repeated disregard for both criminal and immigration laws. These offenses were prosecuted in Louisiana, where he served time before being released to immigration authorities. ICE officials noted that Trejo’s prior violations included behavior associated with drug use and distribution, and that his presence in the U.S. poses an ongoing legal concern due to his criminal history and immigration status.

Trejo was previously encountered by immigration authorities but had not been removed at the time due to pending legal matters. Following his latest arrest, ICE initiated formal removal proceedings. He will remain in ICE custody while awaiting the outcome of those proceedings.
