Jose Monroy-Reyes
Jose Monroy-Reyes/Mexico/Cocaine Possession
Atlanta-area officers arrested Jose Monroy-Reyes after a traffic encounter led to the discovery of cocaine and his prior removal from the United States, according to federal and local information. During the stop, officers reported indicators of drug activity and recovered a quantity of cocaine, then determined Monroy-Reyes had previously been deported and was back in the country without authorization. He was taken into custody and booked on cocaine possession and illegal re-entry charges.
Federal immigration officers later assumed custody of Monroy-Reyes, and prosecutors are expected to pursue a felony illegal re-entry case alongside the narcotics offense. Court records indicate he remains detained pending proceedings that will address both the cocaine possession charge and his return after removal. A federal judge in the Atlanta-area district will ultimately decide his sentence and any resulting removal order if he is convicted.
