Julio Soto-Heredia/Dominican Republic/Fentanyl Trafficking
On May 18, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston, in coordination with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), arrested Julio Soto-Heredia, a 44-year-old Dominican national, during a targeted operation in Boston. Soto-Heredia was taken into custody based on serious drug and firearm charges pending in both the United States and the Dominican Republic.
Soto-Heredia was recently charged in Boston with trafficking fentanyl and illegal possession of a firearm following an investigation by federal and local law enforcement agencies. The charges stemmed from a 2024 drug trafficking case in which Soto-Heredia was identified as a supplier in a regional narcotics distribution network. He was apprehended after officers executed a warrant in a residential neighborhood, where he was taken into custody without incident.
In addition to the charges filed in Massachusetts, Soto-Heredia is also wanted in the Dominican Republic for firearms trafficking offenses. Dominican authorities issued an arrest warrant based on his alleged involvement in the illegal movement and distribution of weapons. ICE officials worked with international partners to confirm the charges and coordinate efforts for potential removal and extradition.
Soto-Heredia entered the United States unlawfully and does not have any pending claims for legal status or relief. He was transported to an ICE detention facility in Massachusetts, where he is currently being held. Removal proceedings are underway, and ICE is working closely with Dominican officials to arrange for his transfer should his U.S. criminal case be resolved.
