Kevin Lopez/Mexico/Sexual Assault

by G. George | May 18, 2025

On May 7, 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers in Chicago arrested Kevin Lopez, a 36-year-old Mexican national, at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. Lopez is currently facing serious state-level charges including sexual assault of a minor and sexual assault of an unconscious victim. These charges were filed following investigations by local authorities, who had previously arrested Lopez on a separate offense involving marijuana possession.

Lopez was taken into ICE custody while attending court proceedings for the ongoing criminal case. Officials confirmed that Lopez is unlawfully present in the United States and did not enter the country through any legal immigration process. His current charges, coupled with his immigration status and prior arrest history, prompted ICE to issue a detainer and take him into custody.

Following his arrest, ICE officers initiated removal proceedings and lodged documentation to begin the process of determining his immigration case. Lopez will remain detained while the state-level criminal charges are resolved. If convicted, those outcomes may impact the timeline and process of his potential removal from the country.

Lopez’s case underscores ICE’s focus on apprehending individuals charged with violent or predatory crimes and ensuring such individuals are not released into the community during or after prosecution.
