Lam Nguyen/Vietnam/Sexual Assault, Marijuana Possession for Sale, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

by G. George | September 30, 2025

Lam Nguyen, a citizen of Vietnam, was arrested by ICE New Orleans and transferred to federal custody for immigration processing. Case records reviewed at the time of arrest list multiple U.S. convictions. Nguyen was convicted of sexual assault and served eight years in prison for that offense. He was also convicted of marijuana possession for sale in a separate case, documenting unlawful possession and commercial intent. A third conviction records failure to register as a sex offender as required under state law. Each entry is documented as a final judgment in U.S. court records reviewed before custody transfer. No bond decision was reported in the initial notice.

Following apprehension, officers initiated intake to determine custody status and place the matter on the immigration court calendar. The announcement did not list additional convictions or new charges associated with this action. Nguyen remains detained pending immigration proceedings. Any matters related to his earlier cases continue in the jurisdictions where they were adjudicated and proceed separately from immigration processing. Future filings will reflect scheduling and custody determinations as the case advances on the docket.
