Lianet Pena Font/Cuba/Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine

by G. George | July 25, 2025

In July 2025, ICE New Orleans arrested Lianet Pena Font, a Cuban national who is unlawfully present in the United States. Pena Font was taken into ICE custody following targeted enforcement efforts aimed at foreign nationals with serious narcotics trafficking convictions.

Pena Font has a felony conviction for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine. She was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for the offense. This conviction classifies as an aggravated felony under U.S. immigration law and makes her subject to mandatory detention and removal. The distribution of cocaine at this level represents a significant public safety threat and places her case among ICE’s top priorities for enforcement.

Following her arrest, Pena Font was processed and placed into immigration proceedings. Due to the nature of her drug trafficking conviction, she is barred from most forms of immigration relief and will remain in ICE custody while awaiting a decision from the immigration court.

ICE officials have confirmed that Pena Font’s prior federal narcotics conviction disqualifies her from protections or legal pathways to remain in the United States. If removal is ordered, she will be deported to Cuba.
