On February 4, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Atlanta apprehended Lorenzo Pacheco-Ramos, a Mexican national, following his release from federal custody. Pacheco-Ramos had been convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 16 months in the Bureau of Prisons.
Upon completing his sentence, ICE officers took him into custody to initiate removal proceedings. He is currently being held at an ICE detention facility pending the outcome of his immigration case.
In a similar case, on March 9, 2025, ICE officers in DeKalb, Georgia, arrested Jose Mercedes Meza-Ignacio, a 52-year-old Mexican national residing in Atlanta. Meza-Ignacio was wanted on criminal charges for child molestation. He had previously entered the United States unlawfully and was identified by ICE as a priority for enforcement due to the severity of the charges against him.
After his arrest, ICE officers took him into custody to initiate removal proceedings. He remains in ICE detention pending the outcome of his immigration case.
