Officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in New York City arrested Luis Efrain Velecela Bonilla, an illegal alien from Ecuador, on December 22. Velecela Bonilla was identified as an unvetted criminal who had been allowed to remain in the country. He is the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice, indicating he is wanted in Ecuador for the rape of a minor.

An ICE spokesman stated, “ICE NYC arrested another unvetted criminal and public safety threat the Biden Administration allowed to freely roam our country.” Authorities emphasized that Velecela Bonilla’s presence posed a significant danger to the community given the severity of the charges in his home nation.

Velecela Bonilla is now in federal custody pending his removal from the United States. Officials highlighted the arrest as part of a broader effort to locate and deport foreign fugitives who seek to evade justice by hiding in American neighborhoods.
