Luis Reyes-Chacon, a 56-year-old citizen of Cuba, was arrested by officers with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Denver following his release from prison. Reyes-Chacon has an extensive U.S. criminal record that includes felony convictions for second-degree burglary and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. His criminal activity resulted in a 12-year prison sentence, which he recently completed before being taken into ICE custody for immigration enforcement proceedings.

Reyes-Chacon originally entered the United States but later lost his legal status due to his serious criminal conduct. His offenses, which involved both property crimes and narcotics, raised public safety concerns and triggered his placement into immigration proceedings. ICE identified him as a priority case due to his felony record and the length of his incarceration. Following his transfer from the Colorado Department of Corrections, he was booked into an ICE detention facility where he will remain while his case proceeds.

Currently, Reyes-Chacon is in ICE custody awaiting removal proceedings. He is subject to deportation based on his lack of legal immigration status and his felony convictions. ICE will pursue his formal removal from the United States in accordance with federal immigration laws. Officers continue to focus on individuals whose criminal histories pose a danger to the community.
