ICE New Orleans arrested Macoy Gonzalez-Juaregui, a citizen of Mexico and an illegal alien present in the United States, as part of ongoing enforcement operations targeting individuals involved in serious drug trafficking crimes. Gonzalez-Juaregui, 35, was apprehended in Louisiana after federal officers identified him as a significant threat to public safety due to his involvement in the deadly fentanyl trade.

Gonzalez-Juaregui’s criminal record includes a conviction for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of a substance containing fentanyl, for which he was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison. According to court records, his case stemmed from a multi-agency investigation that uncovered his role in a broader trafficking network responsible for moving substantial quantities of fentanyl into U.S. communities. Evidence presented during legal proceedings established that Gonzalez-Juaregui worked with other co-conspirators to arrange shipments, handle drug payments, and coordinate distribution channels across state lines.

Law enforcement officials underscored that the amount of fentanyl involved in Gonzalez-Juaregui’s case was significant enough to cause tens of thousands of fatal overdoses, highlighting the critical danger posed by even small quantities of this synthetic opioid. The broader operation led to the seizure of cash, vehicles, and additional narcotics tied to the conspiracy.

Following his release from prison, Gonzalez-Juaregui was transferred to ICE custody for immigration processing. He will remain detained pending removal proceedings before an immigration judge. ICE considers his case a priority given the lethal consequences of fentanyl trafficking and his unlawful presence in the United States.
