Similarly, on January 25, 2025, ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Baltimore arrested 19-year-old Anderson Geovany Romero, a citizen of El Salvador, in Hyattsville, Maryland. Romero is a confirmed member of the MS-13 gang and was taken into custody after being released from the Prince George’s County Detention Center, which declined to honor an ICE immigration detainer.
At the time of his arrest, Romero had pending criminal charges for possession of a loaded handgun and ammunition. He initially entered the United States unlawfully and was encountered by U.S. Border Patrol near Roma, Texas, on July 11, 2015. After being processed, he was issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge and transferred to ICE custody.
On April 24, 2023, a Department of Justice immigration judge ordered his removal to El Salvador after he failed to appear for his scheduled hearing. Despite that final order, Romero remained unlawfully in the United States. In addition to his gang ties and pending charges, he was previously convicted for an open container violation in Ocean City, Maryland, on August 30, 2021. He is currently held in ICE custody pending the outcome of his removal proceedings.
