On April 30, 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Chicago arrested 30-year-old Guatemalan national Manuel Sente-Tevelan in Bloomington, Indiana. He was taken into custody after officials identified him as unlawfully present in the United States with a prior conviction and ongoing charges. Sente-Tevelan was previously convicted in Jackson County for operating while intoxicated (OWI) and currently faces an additional OWI charge in Monroe County.
After his arrest by ICE, Sente-Tevelan was transported to Hopkins County Jail in Kentucky and later transferred to the Oldham County facility. His pending court appearance in Monroe County was delayed due to the custody transfer. Authorities have since rescheduled the hearing for May 29. His arrest occurred during a coordinated enforcement effort by federal immigration authorities in Bloomington that resulted in several detentions of individuals identified as immigration enforcement priorities.
The local community, including Bloomington city officials, was not given advance notice of the federal action, prompting responses from Mayor Kerry Thomson and other leaders expressing concern over the lack of communication. Despite the local backlash, federal authorities proceeded with the detentions as part of an ongoing national initiative. Sente-Tevelan will remain in ICE custody while removal proceedings continue, and his criminal and immigration history will be reviewed by the appropriate court and immigration officials.
