Marco Mejia-Montiel, a 36-year-old criminal alien from Mexico, was arrested by ICE Denver following his release from state custody. Mejia-Montiel has a documented history of repeated violations of both criminal and immigration law. His record includes a conviction for illegal reentry after deportation, as well as multiple domestic criminal offenses committed while unlawfully present in the United States.

Among the most serious of Mejia-Montiel’s offenses are multiple DUI convictions, demonstrating a consistent pattern of endangering public safety through impaired driving. These offenses ultimately led to a cumulative one-year prison sentence, during which ICE lodged a detainer to ensure his transfer to immigration custody upon release. In addition to DUIs, Mejia-Montiel was convicted of battery/domestic violence, adding to the profile of repeated violent and dangerous conduct that contributed to his arrest by federal immigration authorities.

Mejia-Montiel has also previously been removed from the United States but chose to reenter the country unlawfully, an act that constitutes a federal felony. His return in defiance of prior removal orders is a serious immigration offense and grounds for both renewed removal proceedings and potential federal prosecution.

Following his most recent release from state custody, ICE officers took Mejia-Montiel into federal custody without incident. He is currently being detained in a secure facility and will remain in ICE custody pending immigration court proceedings. His prior convictions and unauthorized reentry will be central to the government’s arguments in support of his removal.
