Mariano Aguilar-Cerrato, a 43-year-old citizen of Honduras and an illegal alien in the United States, was arrested by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans as a foreign fugitive. Aguilar-Cerrato is wanted by law enforcement authorities in Honduras for attempted homicide, a serious offense that triggered his addition to ICE’s targeted enforcement watchlists.

Aguilar-Cerrato illegally entered the U.S. on an unknown date without inspection or authorization and remained unlawfully present. His arrest was executed by ERO officers after confirmation of an active warrant issued in Honduras. According to Honduran authorities, Aguilar-Cerrato is accused of attempting to take the life of another individual using a deadly weapon during a violent altercation. The incident reportedly caused severe bodily injury to the victim and led to his designation as a wanted fugitive in his home country.

ERO New Orleans conducted the arrest in coordination with federal databases and foreign law enforcement intelligence sharing. Aguilar-Cerrato was taken into ICE custody without incident and transported to a secure detention facility. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings and possible extradition coordination with Honduran officials.

Given the nature of the charges he faces in Honduras, U.S. authorities have deemed him a priority for removal. ICE has submitted the appropriate documentation to proceed with expedited removal and to notify the Honduran government of his apprehension.
