In May 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested Mayer Sanches, a Mexican national unlawfully present in the United States, following his conviction for sex trafficking. Sanches was taken into custody by ERO officers after completing his sentence at a state correctional facility and is now being held in ICE detention pending removal proceedings.

Sanches’s conviction stemmed from a 2022 investigation into an organized trafficking operation. According to law enforcement reports, he was involved in the recruitment and exploitation of victims for commercial sex acts. The case involved multiple victims and spanned across several cities in Texas. Sanches was charged and later convicted of sex trafficking in a state court and received a custodial sentence for his role in the offense.

ICE issued an immigration detainer during his incarceration, and he was transferred to federal custody immediately upon completing his prison term. Officials confirmed that Sanches had no legal immigration status in the U.S. and had not applied for or received any form of immigration relief.

Currently held at an ICE facility in Texas, Sanches is awaiting a hearing before an immigration judge. ICE has confirmed that his case will move forward under expedited removal procedures due to the nature of his conviction and prior immigration violations.
