Miguel Lopez-Soc/Guatemala/DUI, Careless Driving, Driving without a License

by G. George | August 24, 2025

ICE Denver arrested Miguel Lopez-Soc, a twenty-eight-year-old citizen of Guatemala, in Chaffee County on August eighteen. According to law enforcement records, Lopez-Soc has pending charges for driving under the influence, careless driving, and driving without a license. He has been in the United States without lawful status for approximately ten years and does not possess employment authorization. Records also reflect a prior final order of removal issued in 2015. These are charges, not convictions, and the criminal allegations will be adjudicated in the appropriate court with the required burden of proof.

A DUI charge alleges operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Prosecutors typically substantiate DUI cases with officer observations, field sobriety testing, chemical analysis, and dash or body camera recordings. Careless driving is generally charged when a driver fails to exercise due care, creating an unreasonable risk to others; common proof includes crash reports, witness statements, and roadway or vehicle data. Driving without a license documents operating a vehicle without valid authorization, an offense often established through Department of Motor Vehicles records and officer testimony from a lawful stop.

Following his apprehension, Lopez-Soc was booked into immigration detention. Because a final order of removal was entered in 2015, officials will evaluate reinstatement of that order while removal proceedings advance before an immigration judge as required. Standard processing steps include biometric identity verification, collection of certified criminal and court records, and coordination of travel documentation with the Government of Guatemala. Lopez-Soc will remain in ICE custody while the administrative case proceeds and while any necessary travel arrangements are finalized should a removal order be executed.
