by G. George | August 19, 2026

Miguel Salgado-Balico, a Nicaragua national living in the country illegally, was taken into custody by ICE agents in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, on charges of domestic violence, fraud.

Fraud and financial crimes involving illegal aliens attract enforcement attention from multiple agencies. Beyond the state or federal criminal prosecution, such charges carry additional weight in immigration removal proceedings. Salgado-Balico now faces both a criminal case and a separate federal immigration removal proceeding moving forward on an independent timeline.

Following the arrest, Salgado-Balico was transferred to federal immigration detention. Removal proceedings before a Department of Justice immigration judge are pending, with Nicaragua as the country of removal.
