Miguel Santiago-Salazar
Miguel Santiago-Salazar/Mexico/Assault, Terroristic Threats
Miguel Santiago-Salazar, 36, a citizen of Mexico and an illegal alien present in the United States, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following his May 30 arrest by local authorities. Santiago-Salazar was taken into custody for assault and making terroristic threats—both serious offenses involving threats to public safety. After confirming his identity and unlawful immigration status, ICE lodged an immigration detainer to assume custody upon his release from local jail.
Santiago-Salazar has no legal status in the U.S. and no record of lawful entry. His arrest for violent conduct and threats contributed to ICE’s decision to prioritize enforcement action. The nature of the charges—particularly terroristic threats—typically involve threatening to commit a crime of violence with intent to terrorize others, placing individuals or the public in fear for their safety.
ICE enforcement officers transferred Santiago-Salazar to an immigration detention facility, where he will remain in custody. His case has been referred for formal immigration proceedings before an immigration judge. ICE will pursue his removal from the country, and if the court finds him ineligible for relief, he will be deported back to Mexico.
The combination of criminal activity and illegal presence in the U.S. has made Santiago-Salazar subject to removal under federal immigration law. He will remain in custody pending the outcome of his case and the completion of removal proceedings.
