Norman Velasquez/Honduras/Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer

Norman Velasquez, a 41-year-old illegal alien and citizen of Honduras, was deported by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans following a criminal history that includes a conviction for aggravated assault on a police officer. Velasquez, who had entered the United States unlawfully, was identified as a public safety concern due to the violent nature of his criminal conduct.

His arrest followed coordinated efforts by ICE officers targeting criminal aliens with histories of violence or threats to law enforcement. Velasquez had previously been apprehended by local authorities and served time for the assault conviction. ICE lodged an immigration detainer to assume custody upon his release from local jail, ensuring that he would not be released back into the community.

After entering ICE custody, officials processed Velasquez for removal based on his prior conviction and immigration status. A final removal order was issued, and he was deported on a commercial flight under ICE escort. Upon arrival in Honduras, Velasquez was transferred to local authorities for further review.

During the removal process, it was noted by officers that Velasquez requested to bring a stuffed animal on board the flight, which he held onto during transport—an odd contrast to the severity of his record. His deportation marks another step in removing criminal aliens from U.S. communities.
