Octavio Juarez-Bonilla/Mexico/Child Pornography
On January 26, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested Octavio Juarez-Bonilla, a Mexican national unlawfully present in the United States, during a targeted enforcement action in California. Juarez-Bonilla had previously been convicted of possessing child pornography after investigators discovered explicit images on a work-issued computer. He had entered the country without inspection and was not encountered by immigration authorities until after his arrest on federal criminal charges.
In 2022, a forensic investigation of a company laptop issued to Juarez-Bonilla uncovered multiple illegal files involving minors. The IT department flagged the content and alerted law enforcement, which initiated a criminal investigation. He was arrested, charged, and later convicted in federal court for possession of child pornography. Court records show that some of the images involved children under the age of 10. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison followed by supervised release and sex offender registration.
While serving his sentence, ICE lodged an immigration detainer requesting notification prior to his release. On January 26, 2025, following the completion of his sentence, Juarez-Bonilla was transferred directly into ICE custody. He is currently being held at an ICE detention facility pending removal proceedings.
An immigration judge previously issued a removal order in absentia in 2020, which has now been reinstated. Juarez-Bonilla remains in ICE custody and awaits deportation to Mexico.
