Omar Gallegos Garcia/Mexico/Assault

by G. George | July 30, 2025

On July 24, ICE New Orleans arrested Omar Gallegos Garcia, a 30-year-old citizen of Mexico and confirmed member of the violent MS-13 gang. Gallegos Garcia, who is unlawfully present in the United States, has a criminal conviction for assault and was taken into ICE custody following his most recent encounter with law enforcement.

According to federal authorities, Gallegos Garcia’s membership in MS-13—a notorious transnational criminal organization known for violent crimes and narcotics trafficking—elevated him as a high-priority enforcement target. His prior conviction for assault adds to the pattern of criminal behavior frequently associated with gang members of this type. Local law enforcement agencies flagged him as a threat due to his gang ties and violent tendencies, leading to a coordinated operation by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations division.

Gallegos Garcia has no legal right to remain in the United States and was previously encountered by immigration authorities. Despite that, he remained in the country and continued engaging in unlawful conduct. ICE officials confirmed that he will remain in custody throughout the duration of his removal proceedings.

His arrest removes an active gang-affiliated criminal alien from the community and places him into federal immigration detention.
