Pedro Sanchez-Izquierdo
Pedro Sanchez-Izquierdo/Cuba/Murder
In May 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) San Francisco arrested Pedro Sanchez-Izquierdo, a Cuban national with a felony conviction for murder in Sacramento, California. Sanchez-Izquierdo, who had served a lengthy prison sentence, was taken into ICE custody immediately following his release from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
His murder conviction stemmed from a 2009 case in which Sanchez-Izquierdo fatally stabbed another man during an altercation in a residential neighborhood. The incident led to his arrest, conviction, and a prison sentence of over a decade. During his incarceration, ICE lodged an immigration detainer to ensure he would be transferred to federal custody upon release.
Upon his release in 2025, ERO San Francisco officers executed the transfer and placed Sanchez-Izquierdo into ICE custody. He had previously entered the United States as a Cuban national without securing legal permanent residence and had no valid immigration status at the time of his arrest.
He is currently being held at a secure ICE facility pending removal proceedings. Due to the severity of his offense and the lack of lawful immigration status, Sanchez-Izquierdo is expected to remain in ICE custody while his deportation case is reviewed by an immigration judge. Coordination with Cuban authorities is ongoing to arrange repatriation.
