In May 2025, ICE announced the arrest and ongoing federal detention of Ricardo Granadillo Padilla, a 25-year-old Venezuelan national suspected of involvement in a deadly mass shooting that occurred on December 2, 2024, at a house party in Chicago. The attack, which resulted in multiple injuries and three fatalities, is believed to be tied to the violent Tren de Aragua gang. ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) identified Granadillo Padilla as one of the primary suspects in the shooting.

Granadillo Padilla was arrested on February 8, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina, during a coordinated operation conducted by ICE HSI Chicago and Raleigh, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Raleigh, the U.S. Border Patrol Tactical Unit, the U.S. Marshals Service, and CBP Air and Marine Operations. At the time of his arrest, officers recovered a pistol, ammunition, and other critical evidence believed to link him to the December shooting.

Authorities had previously searched Granadillo Padilla’s residence in Chicago in January 2025, where they seized multiple firearms, high-capacity magazines, narcotics, and fraudulent documents. He was sentenced in March 2025 for illegally entering the United States in 2022 near El Paso, Texas. He remains in federal custody while facing both immigration violations and further criminal investigation related to the mass shooting.

ICE continues to coordinate with federal and local law enforcement agencies as the case develops. Granadillo Padilla has no legal immigration status and is considered a public safety threat based on the nature of the charges and evidence recovered during the investigation.
