In May 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Atlanta arrested Roger Alberto Vardalez, a Honduran national with multiple criminal convictions in Greenville County, South Carolina. Vardalez, who is unlawfully present in the United States, has a history of violent and drug-related offenses, including domestic violence, aggravated assault and battery, and narcotics possession.

Local law enforcement in Greenville County first encountered Vardalez in 2020 during a domestic disturbance call that resulted in his arrest and later conviction for domestic violence. He was subsequently charged in separate incidents involving aggravated assault and battery, in which he inflicted serious bodily harm on the victim, and for the unlawful possession of controlled substances. These charges led to multiple sentencing terms and time served in the county detention facility.

Following coordination between county officials and federal authorities, ERO Atlanta lodged an immigration detainer to ensure that Vardalez would be transferred to ICE custody upon his release. In May 2025, ICE agents took custody of Vardalez and transported him to a secure detention center for processing.

At the time of arrest, Vardalez had no lawful status in the United States and no applications for immigration relief pending. He is currently in ICE custody and undergoing removal proceedings before an immigration judge. ICE is coordinating with the government of Honduras for his repatriation upon the conclusion of legal proceedings.
