Sergio Angel Montes-Sanchez/Mexico/Criminal Sexual Conduct
On February 12, 2025, ICE officers in St. Paul arrested Sergio Angel Montes-Sanchez, a Mexican national, following his release from Minnesota state custody. Montes-Sanchez had been convicted of criminal sexual conduct and sentenced to 90 months in prison. His conviction stemmed from an incident involving sexual contact with a minor, and he served over seven years in custody. After completing his sentence, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations took him into custody to initiate removal proceedings. He remains detained in an ICE facility pending a hearing before an immigration judge.
Montes-Sanchez had previously entered the United States unlawfully and had no legal immigration status at the time of his arrest. He came to the attention of ICE following notification from the Minnesota Department of Corrections prior to his release from prison. His arrest is part of routine post-conviction enforcement operations targeting individuals convicted of serious offenses.
In a similar case, ICE St. Paul officers arrested Cristofer Alexander Ramirez-Oliva, a 28-year-old Mexican national, on January 23, 2025.
