On February 17, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Atlanta arrested Thanh Phu Ha (Pictured), a citizen of Vietnam. Phu Ha has been convicted of aggravated assault and robbery and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

A few days after, on February 21, 2025, ICE Newark, in collaboration with federal law enforcement partners, arrested Richard Alfanso Smith, a 48-year-old Jamaican national who was illegally residing in the United States.

Smith had an extensive criminal record, including multiple convictions for assault and robbery, making him a high-priority target for ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). His history of violent offenses posed a significant public safety risk. Smith’s apprehension was part of a larger operation aimed at targeting noncitizens with serious criminal backgrounds.

Following his arrest, Smith was placed in ICE custody, pending removal proceedings. This case underscores ICE’s ongoing commitment to enforcing immigration laws and enhancing public safety.
