Tomas Jesus Yarrington Ruvalcaba/Mexico/Money Laundering

Tomas Jesus Yarrington Ruvalcaba, a former governor and citizen of Mexico, was removed from the United States by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after serving time for financial crimes. Yarrington, who held the governorship of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas from 1999 to 2005, had been wanted by Mexican authorities for years due to extensive allegations of corruption and organized crime connections. After years of international investigations and legal proceedings, he was ultimately convicted in the United States on charges related to money laundering.

Yarrington was accused of accepting millions of dollars in bribes from drug cartels during his time in office and then using various U.S. bank accounts and real estate transactions to conceal and launder those illicit funds. His conviction marked the end of a lengthy legal battle that involved cross-border cooperation between American and Mexican law enforcement agencies.

Following the completion of his sentence in the U.S., ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations coordinated with Mexican officials to carry out his removal. Officers transferred Yarrington to Mexican custody at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in California. He will now face additional legal proceedings in Mexico stemming from longstanding criminal charges related to corruption, organized crime, and embezzlement.
