On January 27, 2025, ICE Corpus Christi administratively arrested a citizen and national of Honduras, who illegally re-entered the U.S. and has an outstanding state arrest warrant for Aggravated Assault W/Deadly Weapon. The subject was issued an I-871 Notice of Intent/Decision to Reinstate Prior Order for violation of the INA.
In a similar case, on January 31, 2025, ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Denver arrested 48-year-old Juan Benitez-Ortega, a Mexican national, in Adams County, Colorado. Benitez-Ortega had entered the United States unlawfully and did not possess any valid immigration status at the time of his arrest.
According to law enforcement records, he had been charged in Colorado with felony assault and kidnapping. The charges stemmed from an incident involving an alleged domestic altercation in which the victim reported being forcibly held and physically assaulted. Benitez-Ortega had previously come to the attention of immigration authorities but had not been detained until the targeted enforcement action in late January.
ICE officers located and apprehended him without incident. Following the arrest, he was issued administrative immigration charges and transferred to an ICE detention facility in Colorado. At the time of his arrest, there were no pending immigration relief applications or legal filings on record. Due to the nature of the pending state-level criminal charges and his unlawful status, Benitez-Ortega has been placed into removal proceedings.
He remains in ICE custody while his case is reviewed by the immigration court.
