On May 16, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Charlotte, North Carolina, apprehended Christian Valladares-Sierra, a 39-year-old Honduran national, following a dramatic foot chase that culminated in a pond near the Mecklenburg County Courthouse. Valladares-Sierra, who had previously been deported and reentered the United States unlawfully, was wanted for resisting a public officer and driving while intoxicated.

The incident began when ICE agents attempted to arrest Valladares-Sierra near the courthouse. Upon noticing the officers, he fled the scene, leading them on a pursuit through nearby streets. In an attempt to evade capture, Valladares-Sierra leaped shirtless into a duck pond, diving headfirst into the water. The chase, captured on video, concluded with ICE officers tackling him in the pond and taking him into custody.

Following his arrest, Valladares-Sierra was processed at ICE’s Charlotte office. His exact date of re-entry into the U.S. remains unclear.
