Yasuhiro Yamashita/Philippines/Sexual Assault

by G. George | May 29, 2025

Yasuhiro Yamashita, a 24-year-old citizen of the Philippines, was arrested in Kodiak, Alaska, by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Seattle, with assistance from U.S. Border Patrol and the U.S. Marshals Service. Yamashita was previously convicted of sexual assault of a minor and had been residing unlawfully in the United States. His arrest was the result of targeted enforcement action based on his conviction and immigration status.

Federal records indicate that Yamashita had no legal status to remain in the U.S. following his conviction. The nature of his crime placed him among the highest priorities for ICE enforcement under immigration law. Acting on intelligence coordination and surveillance efforts, officers located him in Kodiak and executed the arrest without incident.

Following his apprehension, Yamashita was transported to a federal holding facility, where he was served with a notice of intent to reinstate a prior order of removal. He is now in ICE custody and will remain detained pending the outcome of his removal proceedings. Due to the severity of his conviction and the risk posed by his continued presence in the country, he is not eligible for bond.

Yamashita’s removal case is currently under review by the appropriate immigration authorities.
