Yomara Canedo/Mexico/Felony Drug Trafficking

by G. George | June 18, 2025

Yomara Canedo, a citizen of Mexico, was arrested by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans for her involvement in felony drug trafficking activity. Canedo had been previously convicted of an aggravated felony related to trafficking controlled substances, a crime that qualifies as a serious immigration enforcement priority under federal law.

According to official records, Canedo’s conviction stemmed from her role in distributing illegal narcotics within the United States. Details of the case indicate that the trafficking operation was of substantial scale, involving the possession, transport, or sale of illicit drugs with the intent to distribute. The conviction carries significant legal consequences under both criminal and immigration statutes.

Following the completion of her criminal sentence, Canedo was transferred to ICE custody for further immigration enforcement action. Because she is a noncitizen convicted of an aggravated felony, her removal from the United States is mandated under current immigration law. She is currently being held in ICE detention pending her removal proceedings.

Canedo’s case underscores the continued prioritization of criminal aliens involved in narcotics-related crimes. Federal authorities maintain that drug trafficking presents a clear danger to communities and is a key focus area in enforcement actions across multiple states. ERO New Orleans has taken custody of numerous noncitizens with similar felony drug convictions this year alone, particularly in cases where individuals were previously convicted of distribution-related offenses.
