Zakariya Abdi/Somalia/Homicide, Larceny

by G. George | March 04, 2026

Somali national Zakariya Abdi was arrested by federal immigration authorities in Bayport, Minnesota, during Operation Metro Surge. Abdi was previously convicted of homicide and larceny in Rice County, Minnesota, stemming from an incident in September 2013 in which he beat a man to death. Court records indicate Abdi was convicted of the homicide offense in connection with this fatal assault.

Abdi completed his state sentence on July 1, 2025, and was released directly to Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody pursuant to a federal immigration detainer. The Department of Homeland Security included Abdi on its official “Worst of the Worst” public database of criminal illegal aliens arrested during enhanced enforcement operations. Federal officials classified Abdi among dangerous offenders targeted for removal from the United States. The DHS database expanded to include 20,000 individuals in January 2026, with Abdi featured as one of the noted offenders with homicide convictions.
