DOGE reports that over 3.9 million Social Security numbers were issued to illegals over the last four years under Biden, with 2 million issued in 2024 alone.
As a result, millions have been able to apply for public benefits, get driver’s licenses, and register to vote, according to Elon Musk, who is leading the DOGE effort.
Musk claims the Social Security cards were used to collect benefits the migrants are not entitled to. In addition, Musk believes it’s part of a “massive large-scale program” by the Biden administration to “import as many illegals as possible, ultimately to change the entire voting map of the United States and disenfranchise the American people and make it a permanent deep blue one-party system from which there would be no escape,” NewsNationNow.com reports.
Musk has shared data from a Social Security program called Enumeration Beyond Entry, which indicated that nearly 2.1 million migrants were given Social Security numbers in fiscal year 2024 alone.
In comparison, roughly 590,000 noncitizens received Social Security numbers in fiscal year 2022 and 964,000 received them in 2023, EBE data showed.
The Trump administration estimates that 11 million immigrants crossed the border illegally under Biden and are currently living in the U.S., which has taxed the immigration system on multiple fronts.
Musk recruited a notable team of CEOs and business leaders to assist the Department of Government Efficiency. Venture capitalist Antonio Gracias, who has been looking into the Social Security Administration, said the Social Security numbers reportedly being given to migrants is an example of fraudulent activity within the SSA, NewsNationNow.com reports.
“This literally blew us away,” Gracias said during a recent town hall meeting in Wisconsin. “We went there to find fraud, and we found this by accident.”
So how are migrants getting the Social Security cards? According to the Social Security Administration, only noncitizens authorized to work in the United States by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can get a Social Security number.
Once authorized to legally work in the U.S., migrants are eligible to apply for a Social Security card. However, the agency stipulates that for non-U.S. citizens to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), they must have been granted a certain classification by the Department of Homeland Security, NewsNationNow.com reports.
Those classifications include:
- Being legally admitted into the country as a permanent resident
- Granted conditional entry or asylum
- Paroled into the U.S. or admitted as a refugee
However, Gracias alleged that migrants were given Social Security numbers automatically through the mail without being interviewed or being required to show identification after applying for and receiving a work permit.
Social Security numbers are used to report a person’s wages to the government and to determine a person’s eligibility for Social Security benefits. A Social Security number is needed to work, collect Social Security benefits, and receive other government services.
The EBE program that distributes Social Security numbers to migrants with work authorizations began during President Trump’s first term. It automatically processes Social Security cards for immigrants with temporary or permanent legal status, including those with green cards or work authorization from the Department of Homeland Security.
The initiative was established as a partnership between the SSA and DHS to assist the SSA in efficiently issuing Social Security numbers to migrants who were deemed eligible, according to the NewsNation report.
The SSA’s inspector general wrote in 2019 that the program allowed Homeland Security to vet the legal status of migrants who were eligible to work and then automatically issue them with Social Security numbers. As part of the process, migrants seeking Social Security numbers were required to provide proof of their legal status.
In addition, lawfully admitted noncitizens can get many benefits and services without a Social Security number. You don’t need a number to get a driver’s license, register for school, get private health insurance, or apply for school lunch programs or subsidized housing, according to the SSA.
