Anti-ICE protesters surround vehicle of conservative journalist in Minneapolis

Conservative journalist and online commentator Nick Sortor said anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protesters surrounded his vehicle, damaged it, and threatened him during demonstrations in Minnesota on the Sunday after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good.

In videos posted to social media, Sortor said protesters swarmed his truck near the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis, smashed windows, and blocked his vehicle as he attempted to leave the area. Sortor said he was forced to drive away to avoid further confrontation as demonstrators surrounded the truck.

“These are the moments leading up to Minneapolis anti-ICE rioters surrounding my vehicle, smashing my windows, and attempting to kill @CamHigby and me,” Sortor wrote in a post on X. He said protesters stood in front of the vehicle as he tried to leave and later used other vehicles to block his path.

Sortor also posted images showing graffiti spray-painted on his truck and said frozen water bottles were thrown at the vehicle during the encounter. In one video, he displayed bottles he told Fox News were recovered from the truck bed after the incident.

Independent journalist Cam Higby, who was with Sortor at the time, shared footage appearing to show a physical confrontation between Sortor and individuals wearing masks near the federal building. The videos show multiple people grabbing and pushing Sortor as he attempted to move away from the crowd. In another clip, a woman is seen shouting expletives before striking him.

Sortor stated that protesters made repeated threats against him and Higby during the incident. He said both men were ultimately able to leave the area safely and credited officers from the Eagan Police Department for assisting them after the confrontation.

“They protected me when violent rioters were after us,” Sortor wrote.

Additional footage posted by Higby shows protesters surrounding the vehicle earlier in the evening, throwing objects and shouting at the occupants. Sortor said that after leaving the immediate area, he believed another vehicle followed them on the interstate for a short time. He also said police were contacted after demonstrators accused him of possessing a firearm and attempting to strike protesters with his vehicle.

Conservative commentator Eric Daugherty also posted about the incident, saying Sortor was assaulted and harassed during the demonstrations and urging him to stay safe.
