U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Hidalgo Port of Entry apprehended five illegal aliens during four separate enforcement actions conducted within a 24-hour period, according to the agency.
The arrests took place Feb. 19 in the Rio Grande Valley area and involved open-air apprehensions outside residences as well as vehicle stops. All five individuals were taken into custody without incident and processed for alleged violations of U.S. immigration law.
The five individuals included three Mexican nationals and two Honduran nationals. One of the Honduran nationals had been previously removed from the United States three times, according to Customs and Border Protection.
The enforcement actions occurred away from the port of entry, according to Customs and Border Protection.
“Our frontline CBP officers and SRT operators formed a tactical team and successfully apprehended five illegal aliens discovered to be residing in the U.S. in four separate enforcement actions,” Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo Port of Entry, said in a statement. “These enforcement actions away from the port highlight the versatility of our CBP officers, our SRT operators and their tactical skill to apprehend illegal aliens unlawfully present in the U.S. and process them for various immigration law violations.”
The enforcement actions were carried out by Office of Field Operations personnel, including members of the Special Response Team. Special Response Team operators are trained to conduct high-risk enforcement operations and assist with tactical apprehensions.
Customs and Border Protection did not report any injuries during the arrests.
The agency processes individuals apprehended for immigration violations through removal proceedings or other applicable enforcement channels under federal law.
