A brutal hammer attack outside a Fort Myers gas station has left a mother of two dead, with the accused killer identified as a transient Haitian national who entered the U.S. illegally, yet shielded from deportation orders under the Biden administration.

The day for D&D Convenience Store clerk, Nilufar Yasmin, turned ugly when 40-year-old Robert Joachin – a homeless man with frequent police run-ins – unsuccessfully tried to withdraw money from an ATM inside. He then turned on Yasmin, who was behind the counter, and demanded cash from the register—leaving Yasmin to explain the ATM was not store-owned.
According to witnesses and surveillance footage, Joachin returned to the store on April 2, 2026, the very next day. Hammer-in-hand, Joachin began bashing out the front window of Yasmin’s vehicle. As soon as the clerk stepped outside, he lunged at her with the hammer, striking her repeatedly in the head and upper body.
Censored by local media, the raw surveillance video of the brutal attack is so gruesome that it’s now been removed from social media. Yasmin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Joachin, later arrested, confessed to the police. A Lee County judge ordered him to be held without bail during his first court hearing Friday. He faces charges of second-degree murder, criminal mischief, and a new ICE detainer for removal.
According to DHS, however, Joachin should not have been in Fort Myers in the first place—confirming Biden’s open border policies are to blame.
“This illegal alien barbarically hit this woman in the head multiple times with a hammer. This heinous murderer was RELEASED into the country by the Biden administration. Not only did the Biden administration release him into the country, but they then gave him Temporary Protected Status. Their reckless immigration policies cost this woman her life,” said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “The arrest of this criminal is an example of how ICE and local authorities can work together to swiftly bring criminals to justice and make our communities safer.”
Joachin first entered the U.S. illegally in August 2022, but was released into the country under President Biden. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal later that year. However, the Biden administration’s blanket Temporary Protected Status for Haitians prevented ERO actions. ICE now saying it intends to pursue deportation proceedings regardless of the criminal case outcome.
Yasmin, who was raising two teenage daughters, is mourned by her community. A memorial has been established at the site to honor a woman remembered as a dedicated mother. Her death highlights an ongoing partisan battle over catch-and-release policies, criticized as protecting criminals over law-abiding citizens.
