A San Antonio man who has been on the run for years following charges of smuggling illegal aliens and sexually assaulting a child has been arrested in Mexico and extradited back to the U.S.
Isaac James Garcia, 34, was arrested on Friday in Coahuila, Mexico, the U.S. Marshals Service announced this week. He was handed over by Mexican law enforcement to marshals at the port of entry in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Garcia was charged in 2018 with “transporting undocumented immigrants” into the U.S., but was released on bond. According to the Marshals Service, Garcia “violated the conditions of his pretrial release” and was later charged for sexually assaulting a child in Bexar County.
Garcia evaded “multiple coordinated efforts” by law enforcement to capture him, most recently in April 2024 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila.
“Our deputies never stopped looking for this fugitive,” U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Texas Susan Pamerleau said in a statement. “Working hand in hand with our Mexican law enforcement partners, we remained relentless in our pursuit, sending a clear message that no matter how far you run or how long you hide, we will find you and bring you to justice.”
The Marshals Service worked with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Department of State, as well as the Policia Civil Coahuila, the Fiscalia General del Estado de Coahuila, and Instituto Nacional de Migración in Mexico.
Garcia will face his pending charges in Bexar County, the service said.
