Guatemalan arrested for child abuse, murder of his 3-month-old daughter in sanctuary Fairfax County

The mainstream media is running cover for a Guatemalan national who faces charges for killing his 3-month-old daughter in sanctuary Fairfax County, Virginia.

The Fairfax County Police Department arrested 28-year-old Misael Lopez Gomez, an illegal alien from Guatemala, on March 31 following an investigation into the death of his 3-month-old daughter who was found unresponsive.

Gomez is now facing murder and felony child abuse charges after an autopsy determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma. He was being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on no bond.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also lodged an arrest detainer for Gomez, asking Virginia sanctuary politicians to keep him behind bars or turn him over to ICE.

Although Gomez is accused of bludgeoning his infant daughter to death, various headlines, including by local outlet WUSA9, described the suspect as a “Virginia dad.”

“Misael Lopez Gomez is NOT a ‘Virginia dad,’” the U.S. Department of Homeland Security shared on social media. “He is an illegal alien from Guatemala and a cold-blooded killer accused of murdering his own three-month-old daughter.”

News of the baby’s disturbing death came a day after Fairfax County authorities arrested another illegal alien from Guatemala for allegedly fatally stabbing a man with a machete in the same community of Bailey’s Crossroads, according to WJLA News.

Fairfax County Police Department issued a news release following Gomez’s arrest on Tuesday, March 31. Officers responded to a call of an unresponsive infant around 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 27 in Bailey’s Crossroads.

Officers began CPR until Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and continued life-saving efforts in the baby, according to police. The infant was transported to a local hospital but later pronounced deceased.

Gomez was watching the infant at the time of the incident. Preliminary results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma. Detectives and hospital staff also observed evidence consistent with abuse, Fairfax police said.

Gomez admitted that he illegally crossed into the United States in July 2023 near Albuquerque, New Mexico, under the Biden Administration.

“We are calling on Governor Spanberger to commit to not releasing this barbaric animal from jail into Virginia communities,” said DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.

“This monster should have never been allowed in our country by the Biden administration,” Bis continued. “We need cooperation from sanctuary politicians to stop criminals from being released from jail to perpetrate more crimes and create more innocent victims.”

Fairfax County has been in the news for several recent fatalities by illegal immigrants, including the bus stop stabbing death of 41-year-old Stephanie Minter from Fredericksburg, Va.

In February, Fairfax County police arrested and charged 32-year-old Abdul Jalloh with second-degree murder for stabbing Minter at a bus stop in Hybla Valley. Her accused killer is an illegal alien from Sierra Leone who had more than 30 prior arrests.

ICE also lodged a detainer for 18-year-old Israel Flores Ortiz, who is accused of groping a dozen female students at a Fairfax County high school.

Gomez’s arrest was announced a day after Fairfax police charged Anibal Armando Chavarria Muy, 38, from Guatemala, with second-degree murder following a deadly stabbing on March 29.

Muy is accused of stabbing a man multiple times in his home and leaving him for dead. WJLA reporter Nick Minock shared on social media that police said Muy allegedly used a machete.

The victim was found inside a home with multiple stab wounds to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Muy left the scene before officers arrived. The victim and Muy reportedly knew each other, investigators said.

According to published reports, Muy is believed to a “gotaway,” meaning he illegally crossed the border and was observed by border agents or technology but avoided capture.

Fairfax County is a major suburb of Washington, D.C., across the Potomac River and considered a deep-blue Democratic stronghold.

Fairfax County Sheriff Stacey Kincaid’s office is known for not honoring ICE detainers and warrants, even when it comes to violent illegal immigrants.

Border Czar Tom Homan spoke about Fairfax County’s reckless sanctuary policies on Fox News’ “The Will Cain Show” and said “sanctuaries are sanctuaries for criminals.”

Homan said progressive Democrats hate Trump more than they care about their public safety.

“Elections…Elections have consequences,” Homan told host Will Cain in a clip shared on ICE’s X account. “Spanberger took over and she moved so far left she’s not even recognizable anymore.”

Homan said ICE can come to an agreement with local politicians, police chiefs and sheriffs similar to the arrangement in Minneapolis.

“If you don’t want to honor detainers, there’s nothing illegal about calling ICE before you release them and we will be there to take custody,” he said. “You don’t have hold them one minute past when you would normally hold them on your charges. Just give us a call. It’s free.”

Allyson Conroy, a spokesperson for the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office, told Fox News Digital, that “as required by statute, whenever an undocumented person is booked into the Adult Detention Center, ICE is notified that person has been taken into custody.”

She countered that the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office “does not obstruct or prevent ICE from acting on their civil detainers.”

Fairfax County’s lenient and progressive District Attorney Steve Descano is also under fire for giving two admitted murderers — including one who is an illegal immigrant — “sweetheart plea deals,” Fox News Digital reported.

Maldin Anibal Guzman and Wis Alonso Sorto-Portillo pleaded guilty to the 2024 mob killing of Nicacio Hernandez Gonzalez, who was found dead with trauma to his body in Fairfax County, according to police.

They will serve just five years in prison each under a plea deal with Descano’s office.
