ICE arrests convicted child predator from Bangladesh in New York

Federal immigration authorities have arrested a Bangladeshi national living unlawfully in the United States who was previously convicted of sexually abusing a child in New York.

Md. Mobarak Hossain, 40, was taken into custody on Aug. 7 in Queens by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Hossain is a convicted child sex offender who was unlawfully present in the country.

Court records show Hossain was convicted in Queens of first-degree sexual abuse involving a child younger than 11 and endangering the welfare of a child. ICE officials identified him as a “violent pedophile” and targeted him as part of a nationwide enforcement operation focusing on criminal aliens with serious convictions.

Authorities said Hossain’s arrest removes a dangerous offender from the community. He is currently in ICE custody pending removal proceedings before a federal immigration judge.

“ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations officers work tirelessly to apprehend and remove criminals who pose a threat to our communities,” the agency said in its announcement of the arrest. “Individuals who commit these types of heinous crimes against children will be prioritized for arrest and removal from the United States.”

ICE data shows that child sex offenses remain a significant focus of enforcement actions, particularly for individuals who have reentered the country after prior removals or who have evaded detection while unlawfully present. Officials say arrests like Hossain’s are critical to preventing further offenses and ensuring public safety.

Hossain’s apprehension is one of several recent high-profile arrests in the New York area involving criminal aliens. ICE has reiterated that it will continue to coordinate with local, state, and federal partners to locate and remove foreign nationals convicted of violent crimes.
