ICE arrests illegal alien police officer in Illinois sanctuary suburb

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested a police officer in the Chicago suburb of Hanover Park who was living in the United States illegally for a decade, officials confirmed Thursday.

The officer, Radule Bojovic, a national of Montenegro, entered the U.S. on a B-2 visitor visa that required him to leave by March 31, 2015. He overstayed the visa for ten years before being hired by the Hanover Park Police Department, located in Democrat-led Illinois, a state long known for its sanctuary policies.

ICE officers assigned to Operation Midway Blitz located and arrested Bojovic in Rolling Meadows on Oct. 15. When agents confronted him, he presented his police identification card and admitted he was unarmed because he was only permitted to carry his service weapon while on duty.

ICE Chicago Field Office Director Sam Olson condemned the hiring as a serious breach of federal law.

“Illegal aliens are prohibited from owning or possessing firearms — full stop,” Olson said. “This is the second known instance in recent months of a local police department hiring an illegal alien and unlawfully issuing him a firearm while on duty in violation of federal law.  It is alarming how local jurisdictions continue to disregard federal law to the detriment of their communities.”

Financial records show Bojovic was approved by the Pension Fund Board of Trustees in January 2025 and was eligible for a starting salary of $78,955. His reported 2025 earnings totaled $205,707, including pension and tax contributions.

Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, blasted the situation in a statement.

“Radule Bojovic violated our nation’s laws and was living ILLEGALLY in the United States for ten years — what kind of police department gives criminal illegal aliens badges and guns? It’s a felony for aliens to even possess a firearm.  A law enforcement officer who is actively breaking the law,” McLaughlin said.

At the White House, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the case illustrates the consequences of weak border enforcement.

“It’s unsurprising to me to hear this,” Leavitt said. “These are the cases that happen when you have an administration — the Biden Administration — that for four years completely neglected the laws of our homeland and allowed a mass invasion of tens of millions of illegal aliens who have been infiltrated into our communities.”

Federal officials say Bojovic’s arrest is part of a continuing investigation into local agencies that have hired or armed illegal aliens in violation of federal law.
