ICE New Orleans arrested a violent criminal alien with known gang affiliations last week, removing a repeat offender from U.S. streets. Alfredo Martinez Olivares, a 42-year-old Surenos, Sur‑13, gang member from Mexico, was taken into custody on August 29.
Martinez Olivares has a lengthy criminal history in California, where he was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and violating the street gang act in Woodland. He was sentenced to four years in prison for those charges. He was later convicted of felony DUI causing bodily injury in Sacramento and served additional jail time.
Federal authorities have identified Martinez Olivares as a member of Sur-13, a violent transnational gang with a documented history of drug trafficking, intimidation, and weapons offenses. His arrest in Louisiana highlights the agency’s growing efforts to track and detain gang-affiliated illegal aliens who have crossed state lines.
A senior Department of Homeland Security official praised the arrest as part of broader national efforts to restore law and order. “Thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem, these illegal alien gang members are off America’s streets,” said Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at DHS, in a recent statement.
ICE officials emphasized that Martinez Olivares had already served time for multiple crimes and posed a continued public safety threat. Following a tip and cooperative efforts with local law enforcement, officers located and apprehended him in the New Orleans area without incident. He is now in federal custody pending removal proceedings.
Under the current administration, ICE has renewed its focus on gang enforcement and public safety operations, especially in regions where violent offenders seek to evade detection by relocating across jurisdictions. The agency maintains that efforts to detain and remove criminal aliens are essential to safeguarding communities.
Martinez Olivares is expected to be deported following the resolution of any pending charges or detainers.
