Maryland is in the news again after another illegal immigrant, previously arrested and released, has been charged with a violent assault on a teenage girl.
The suspect, Abubakarr Barrie, from Sierra Leone, is accused of kidnapping and stabbing the 15-year-old victim, who suffered a collapsed lung from the attack.
The 23-year-old Barrie is facing nine charges, including attempted first-degree murder and kidnapping. The alleged assault took place Oct. 22 in Baltimore, and he was arrested two days later.
Surveillance video shows the teenager escaping the home, and police found her later that night with multiple stab wounds.

Barrie illegally entered the country in 2023 and was released by the Biden administration, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said.
New York authorities released Barrie despite an immigration detainer just months before the alleged attack, DHS said.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged another detainer Oct. 24 following his latest arrest by Baltimore Police Department.
“DHS is urging Baltimore County authorities to learn from sanctuary New York’s mistakes, honor ICE’s detainer against this illegal alien, and prevent him from harming any more Americans,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said.
According to CBS News, Barrie worked as an unlicensed cab driver. A judge ordered him held without bond during an initial appearance Oct. 26 in connection with the attack in Northwest Baltimore.
Barrie reportedly picked up the teenager shortly after 8 p.m. Oct. 22 and took her to a Baltimore residence where he was renting a room in the basement, FOX45 News reported.
FOX45 News spoke to the homeowner and said Barrie moved back to Maryland a couple of months before this alleged crime. He had previously lived there and then moved to New York.
Once inside, he allegedly stabbed the teenage victim several times before she fought him off.
Investigators recovered surveillance video from the homeowner that shows the two of them getting out of a vehicle and walking toward the basement entrance.
Around 8:52 p.m., the female is captured on video running from the home.
“About maybe 30 minutes or an hour later, I just see her bolt, like she just opens the door and runs,” the homeowner told FOX45.
She fled the home on foot with no shoes or clothes on. Baltimore police officers encountered the victim around 9:30 p.m.
She had injuries to her chest, ear, shoulder, back and rib area and ultimately suffered a collapsed lung, according to charging documents.
Barrie illegally entered the country through Arizona in December 2023 and was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol, according to DHS records. He was released into the country and made his way to the East Coast.
Barrie was arrested by the New York City Police Department in July 2026 on charges of third-degree possession of a forged instrument, DHS said.
Although ICE lodged a detainer, New York’s sanctuary officials ignored it and released Barrie back onto the streets.
“This tragedy would never have happened were it not for the multiple failures of sanctuary policies,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said. “First, Biden’s open borders let this monster into our country, then sanctuary politicians in New York refused to hand him over to ICE and released him after a previous arrest three months before this horrific crime.”
According to charging documents, the 15-year-old told investigators Barrie picked her up, and she thought they were going to PlattaKing at 5514 Belair Road. Investigators did not say whether Barrie and the victim knew each other prior to that evening.
Barrie began driving in the opposite direction. The teenager told police he allegedly became violent and restrained her in the car when she asked where they were going.
Once inside the home, a scuffle broke out and “Mr. Barrie began stabbing her all over her body, so she said she began scratching and clawing at Mr. Barrie’s body, in an effort to flee,” the charging documents state per FOX45.
The victim picked up a fire extinguisher in the room and began hitting Barrie with it before managing to escape, according to charging documents.
Barrie then contacted the homeowner to try and obtain the surveillance video, alleging the teenage girl stole his wallet and he wanted to post her picture, FOX45 reported.
The homeowner, who was out of the country at the time of the alleged assault, spoke with a friend whose uncle lives at the property. He realized “something else had happened that was much deeper than what was being said.”
“It’s sad,” the homeowner told FOX45. “I’m glad she’s OK, number one, because at the end of the day, that could have been much worse. She could have not made it through.”
According to online records, Barrie was arrested for prostitution in Baltimore County nearly three months ago. That case was marked as “stet,” meaning it is on hold, FOX45 reported. Barrie’s next court date is set for Nov. 25.
