A real-life horror has unfolded for a man who was violently beaten and raped by an illegal migrant from Honduras outside a New York deli last month.
The suspect, Jose Ignacio Bonilla Garcia, 32, was nabbed in Texas on a Greyhound bus headed for the southern border. He is accused of assaulting the man, who was drunk and passed out, behind a dumpster at an Amityville deli. The victim was also beaten and left injured outside.
While authorities tried to track down Bonilla Garcia, he fled New York and appeared to be trying to flee the country.
Texas authorities and U.S. Marshals arrested Bonilla Garcia in Rosenberg, Texas, and took him into custody to face charges for what has been described as a “violent rape and assault of a stranger” by Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also lodged a detainer to deport Bonilla Garcia following his prosecution.
The Honduran national is accused of raping the unconscious man behind the Esperanza Deli Café in Amityville and viciously beating him when he tried to resist, News 12 Hudson Valley reported.
Bonilla Garcia was extradited back from Fort Bend County in Texas to New York and arraigned Monday before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis.

He was indicted for two counts of rape in the first degree and one count of assault in the second degree, according to a news release from the Suffolk County District Attorney.
“Accountability for perpetrators of sexual violence is not just a legal obligation, but also a moral one,” said District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. “My office will do everything in its power to ensure that those who commit such heinous acts are held accountable, not just for the sake of justice, but to protect others and to send a clear message that these crimes will not be tolerated in Suffolk County.”
Prosecutors allege Bonilla Garcia first met the unnamed male victim in the deli around 11:43 p.m. on March 27. Hours later, around 4 a.m., the defendant and the victim left the restaurant separately.
Surveillance video helped identify the suspect as Bonilla Garcia. The two men met up outside and had a conversation, but the victim was so drunk that he collapsed unexpectedly, authorities said.
“The investigation revealed surveillance footage, which allegedly captured the vicious rape of the unresponsive victim and subsequent assault,” the press release states.

Based on the investigation and interviews, the victim woke up in the middle of the attack. Garcia allegedly started beating him with his fists and a wood plank and he lost consciousness again, prosecutors said.
The victim was left “bloodied and battered” on the ground for hours and Garcia fled. A delivery driver discovered him later that morning and called the police, Fox News Digital reported.
The man was taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries. He also agreed to a sexual assault exam and forensic evidence was recovered, prosecutors said.
The Suffolk County Police Department worked with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office to identify and locate the defendant, but he had already fled the area on a Greyhound bus.
Texas authorities and U.S. Marshals located him in Rosenberg, Texas, riding a bus “allegedly heading in the direction of the Southern border,” prosecutors said. Several agencies worked together to extradite Bonilla Garcia back to Suffolk County.
Justice Wilutis ordered him held without bail, Hoodline reported. Bonilla Garcia faces up to 25 years on the top charge and is due back in court on May 28. He is being represented by the Legal Aid Society, according to Tierney’s news release.
