Over 1500 illegals arrested in Houston ICE crackdown

Over 1,500 illegal aliens, including gang members, were arrested in the Houston area following a 10-day operation.

The operation, which U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said “focused on enhancing public safety and restoring integrity to the nation’s immigration system,” was conducted from October 22 to 31 and resulted in 1,505 arrests.

Among those arrested, according to ICE, were 17 gang members, one convicted murderer and 13 sexual predators. Others arrested include 115  individuals with aggravated assault offenses, 142 that have DWIs, 55 drug offenders, 25 with burglary/theft offenses, and 31 that have weapons offenses.

Of the illegals arrested, 255 “committed a felony by illegally reentering the U.S.” after deportation, the agency said.

“Despite the conditions becoming increasingly dangerous for our officers as a result of the spread of violent political rhetoric and intentionally false information, they continue to put their lives at risk every day to apprehend dangerous illegal aliens, gang members, child predators and other violent criminal aliens who threaten public safety here in Southeast Texas,” ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Field Office Director Bret Bradford said in a statement.

One of the gangsters apprehended was Selvin Joel Lara Diaz, a member of the Mexican Mafia who was convicted of raping and impregnating his underage sister. Another illegal, Salvador Ramirez-Carrillo, a member of the Paisas gang, had been deported four times and has a conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

ICE also arrested Marlon Odir Gomez Hernandez, a suspected MS-13 gang member, who fled authorities then became stuck on a sign above a local business.

“While it’s impossible to put a measure on the crimes that will never happen as a result of their efforts during this operation, I can tell you with certainty that they’ve saved lives and prevented countless Houstonians from having to suffer from the nightmares and PTSD that come with being a victim of violent crime,” Bradford added.

ICE said it apprehended 822 illegals during an operation in August and 543 illegal in a March operation.
