Residents in Portland. Ore., are fed up with anti-ICE protesters camping outside detention centers and disrupting their neighborhoods.
Tensions are running high as the protestors continue to yell and loiter on the street. Many residents say they can’t sleep and now view the protesters as worse than ICE itself.
In a video posted on X, a neighbor using a cane walks out to confront the protestors.

“Turn that sh*t down. It’s midnight,” the resident says to a protestor holding a megaphone. “We the people need sleep.”
A confrontation between the protestors and the resident ensues, with the resident yelling, “You heard what I said b*tch,” and to another who jumps in, “Go f*ck yourself.”
As she walks away, she says “turn it down, turn that sh*t down.”
“I’m telling you to shut the F*ck up. I’m sleeping. Who the f*ck do you think you are?”
They start chanting “ICE out of Portland” anyway.
Anti-ICE protestors began protesting in Portland after riots broke out in Los Angeles on June 6, with demonstrations and blockades of ICE vehicles escalating in the week following.
Specifically, protests grew more heated between June 7-14, with Portland police responding to protest activity around the ICE facility in South Portland. The demonstrations then escalated further on the evening of June 14, the day of the nationwide “No Kings” protests, with clashes between protesters and federal officers outside the ICE facility resulting in several arrests.
Protestors broke the doors of the ICE building, spray painted the building and threw water bottles and other objects back at the ICE facility and federal agents.
On June 18, antifa rioters had a showdown with federal agents. The whole scene was caught on video by Turning Point USA’s Frontlines, which offered a play-by-play of the chaos via X status updates. Federal agents deployed rubber bullets, tear gas and flash bangs to quell the crowd.

Across the street from the ICE building is Gray’s Landing, an affordable housing development, where neighbor have expressed concerns about the graffiti, tear gas and encampments for more than two weeks, KOIN 6 News reported.
Gray’s Landing is the first affordable housing development in the South Waterfront community, offering urban living in a natural setting along the Willamette River, according to the website.
One neighbor described the initial incidents as “scary,” and another said residents cannot open their windows due to the smell of tear gas. Several businesses reported that they have lost business and are dealing with physical damage to their buildings.
Gray’s Landing is home to many elderly residents, veterans and families with young children. Hanging in every other ground-floor window is a sign that says “Please do not vandalize,” OregonLive reported.
The nighttime protests have erupted into violence as protestors have set up a camp across from the building. Dozens have been arrested over the past couple of weeks. Federal agents have responded by deploying everything from gas, to pepper balls to flash-bangs on protesters, KOIN 6 News reported June 26.
