A semi-truck driver who struck and killed a man in Mississippi last week was reportedly an illegal alien from India who lives in California.
Sube Singh, 26, was driving an 18-wheeler down I-20 last Thursday when he hit Dedric Garrett, 36, who had gotten out of his vehicle, WLBT reported. Garrett died at the scene.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Singh is a resident of Fresno, California, but the U.S. Department of Homeland Security confirmed to Border Hawk News that he’s in the U.S. illegally.

“Border Patrol encountered Singh on November 19, 2017. He was released from ICE custody on bond on May 10, 2018, and is enrolled in an alternative to detention with a GPS monitor,” DHS said in a statement to Border Hawk. “It is incredibly dangerous for illegal aliens, who often don’t know our traffic laws or even English, to be operating vehicles on America’s roads. DHS is aggressively working with its interagency partners to get illegal alien commercial drivers off the road.”

The Trump administration has cracked down on states issuing commercial driver’s licenses to noncitizens following a rash of accidents caused by foreign truck drivers who sometimes couldn’t even speak English.
Following a federal audit last year, the Trump administration called California “the worst and most egregious” state for non-compliance when issuing non-domiciled CDLs.
“California’s reckless disregard is frankly disgusting and an affront to the millions of Americans who expect us to keep them safe,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy said in a statement last year. “California must get its act together immediately or I will not hesitate to pull millions in funding. To every other state around the country – find all improperly issued CDLs and revoke their licenses now. We owe it to the American people to ensure only lawful, qualified drivers are operating big rigs on our highways.”

Earlier this year, the USDOT unfroze $40 million in federal highway funding after California agreed to begin enforcing English language proficiency test for CDLs.
While the Mississippi Highway Patrol is actively investigating the crash, it’s still unclear what state Singh has a CDL from.
