A review of voter registration lists in Texas has uncovered 2,724 “potential” illegal immigrants registered to vote in the state.
The Texas Secretary of State’s office did the review, which cross-checked 18 million registered voters in the state with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ SAVE database.
“Only eligible United States citizens may participate in our elections,” Secretary of State Jane Nelson said in a statement on Monday. “The Trump Administration’s decision to give states free and direct access to this data set for the first time has been a game changer, and we appreciate the partnership with the federal government to verify the citizenship of those on our voter rolls and maintain accurate voter lists.”
Texas has completed citizenship verifications of the entire state voter list using the SAVE database, thanks to the federal government's recent decision to grant states free and direct access to this data set.

The counties with the most “potential non-citizen” voters were Harris (362), Dallas (277), Bexar (201), El Paso (165), and Hidalgo (149).
The voter files were turned over to counties, “who will now conduct their own investigations into the eligibility of these voters as part of their statutory responsibilities to remove ineligible voters,” according to the office.
Illegals who did vote could face prosecution by the attorney general.
“Everyone’s right to vote is sacred and must be protected. We encourage counties to conduct rigorous investigations to determine if any voter is ineligible — just as they do with any other data set we provide,” Nelson added. “The SAVE database has proven to be a critically important data set and one of many that we will continue to use in Texas to ensure that only qualified voters cast a ballot in our elections.”
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said in a post on X: “Illegal aliens have exploited outdated systems to defraud Americans & taint our elections.”
“All Americans should support President Trump and Secretary Noem’s efforts to ensure that only Americans vote in American elections,” it added. “DHS has revamped the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database to ensure government officials can swiftly verify statuses, stopping entitlements and voter fraud.”
